Free tier and free trial
What Cloady's free tier and one-month free trial include, the monthly limits on the free tier, and what happens when a workspace goes past them.
Cloady has two ways to run an app without paying: the free tier, which has no end date but comes with monthly limits, and the free trial, which runs one small app like a paid app for a month. Both are available in select regions; the deploy page shows which one a region offers.
| Free tier | Free trial | |
|---|---|---|
| Who gets it | One workspace per person or organization | Each account, once |
| How long | No end date | One month |
| What it covers | Apps that together fit inside 0.5 vCPU, 1 GB RAM and 5 GB SSD | One app that fits inside 0.5 vCPU, 1 GB RAM and 5 GB SSD |
| Compute | Shared compute | The same as a paid app |
| Monthly limits | Yes, see Free tier limits | None |
| Paused when idle | After 7 days without traffic | Never |
| Card | Not needed | Not needed to start; needed to keep the app after the month |
Free tier
A workspace pays nothing while all its apps together fit inside 0.5 vCPU, 1 GB RAM and 5 GB SSD. It is a threshold, not a discount: once any one resource goes past it, the whole workspace is billed for everything it declares. Each account gets one free workspace, the one with the oldest app, and every other workspace pays for all its apps.
Free-tier apps run on shared compute, and the limits below apply to the whole workspace.
Free tier limits
| Limit | Free tier | What counts |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic | 100 GB a month | Outbound HTTP traffic, plus all traffic of services that publish a TCP or UDP port |
| HTTP requests | 1,000,000 a month | Requests to your apps; uptime checks don't count |
| CPU | 4 CPU-hours a month | CPU time your containers actually use, not what they reserve |
| Memory | 360 GB-hours a month | Memory your containers actually use, multiplied by the hours they hold it |
| Build time | 45 minutes a build | A build still running at 45 minutes fails |
| Builds at once | 1 per workspace | A deploy that needs a build waits until the workspace's other build finishes |
| Deploys | 100 a day per workspace | Every deploy, redeploy and rollback in the last 24 hours |
| Idle apps | Paused after 7 days | A web app that answered no requests, or another app that moved under 10 MB, for 7 days |
Monthly limits reset at the start of each calendar month, in UTC.
What happens at a limit
- At 90% of a monthly limit, the workspace's members get one email that month.
- Past 100%, Cloady stops every app in the workspace within a few minutes and emails the members. The apps keep their data, settings and addresses. An app started again before the month ends is stopped again; it can run again from the first day of the next month.
- A build that is still running at 45 minutes fails, and its deploy is marked failed.
- A deploy refused by the build limits is answered with
429 rate_limited. A push to a connected repository is retried automatically a few minutes later, so it waits rather than getting lost. - An idle app is paused and its owner gets an email. Press Start on the app to run it again.
To lift every limit, add a card in Account settings → Billing. The workspace is then billed for the resources its apps declare, and paid capacity has no traffic, request, CPU, memory or build limits.
Free trial
In regions that offer the trial, an account's first small app, one that fits inside 0.5 vCPU, 1 GB RAM and 5 GB SSD, runs free for one month with no card needed to start.
- The trial covers one app per account, once. Deleting the app doesn't give the trial back, and moving the app to another account ends its trial.
- A trial app runs like a paid app: it gets the same compute as one, and none of the free tier's limits or idle pauses apply to it.
- Making the app bigger than the free allowance ends its trial, and it is billed from then on.
- Cloady emails the owner three days before the month ends. Afterwards, with a card on file, the app keeps running and is billed at its normal monthly price. Without one it stops and keeps its data, and starting it again needs a card.
- A dedicated app, one whose
cloady.jsondeclares"type": "dedicated", never gets the trial.
One per person
The free tier is one per person or organization, as section 3 of the Terms of Service says: you can have several accounts, but only one of them may use the free tier. Creating accounts to get it more than once can lead to their apps being stopped or billed. If several accounts that belong to different people look linked, for example because colleagues share one office network, reply to Cloady's email or open a support ticket and we'll sort it out.
For how prices are calculated beyond the free allowance, see Capacity and price.
